Lambda-X HITF - SPACE - Launch of JUICE mission

JUICE – 3, 2, 1… No launch today

April 13, 2023 Posted by Elisabeth Son Corporate News, Space & Security

๐Ÿš€ We’re on the edge of our seats! Ariane 5 was originally scheduled to launch today afternoon, carrying the JUICE (JUpiter ICy moons Explorer) probe… But the weather did not comply and the launch was postponed due to lightning risks…
We are now all waiting for the weather to clear so that JUICE can finally take off ! … probably tomorrow according to European Space Agency – ESA.

JUICE is set to embark on a journey of over 7 years to reach the orbit of Jupiter. And we’re thrilled to announce that Lambda-X provided the optics monitoring the probe along the journey and during its mission once on orbit!

๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ The goal of the mission is to detect possible life on the icy moons of Jupiter, and we’re honored to be a part of this incredible international project. Our team developed cutting-edge optical technology that will allow the monitoring of the platform, making sure that everything works well on the probe, from the opening of the solar panels, during its journey, to the taking of measurements and images once at the destination.
We’re thrilled to see our optics technology being put to use in such an important and far-away mission, and we can’t wait to see what discoveries JUICE will make!

๐Ÿ”ญ At Lambda-X, we’re passionate about pushing the boundaries of space exploration and developing technology that can help us better understand our universe. But our systems also allow scientific teams to ensure the good state of their hardware during the missions.

๐ŸŒŒ Join us as we wait for a new Launch date for the JUICE mission!

Did you know that JUICE is to proceed to 4 flybys of Earth, the Moon and Venus to catch the necessary speed for its journey?
What other exciting fact about the JUICE missing have you learned today?

Athermal Infrared optics for Earth Observation

Apr 4, 2022

Coupled with a 1024 x 768 microbolometer sensor, the developed infrared optics covers a spectral range going from 8 to 14 ยตm. The key benefit is enhanced spatial resolution with a Ground Sampling Distance of 57 m for a flight altitude of 450 km. At this altitude, one single image covers a field of view (FOV) of 57 km (swath) x 43 km. Another advantage of the optical configuration is passive thermal compensation (no active focus). Typical thermal resolution is around 100 mK.
