
The European Space Agency’s PROSPECT mission will investigate the Moon’s south polar region, one of the most extreme environments in the solar system. With temperatures dropping below –200 °C, this area holds water, oxygen, and other volatile compounds that could play a vital role in future space exploration.
As part of the ESA-funded PROSPECT program, led by prime contractor Leonardo and in collaboration with industrial partners 3D PLUS and Kayser Italia Srl, Lambda-X Verhaert High-Tech is developing the optical components for the ProSEED (Sample Excavation and Extraction Drill) Imaging System.
The optics will enable the drill to extract and analyze lunar samples under extreme conditions. The system must perform reliably under exceptionally low storage temperatures and in a dusty lunar environment. Lambda-X High-Tech’s contribution leverages its long-standing expertise in high-performance optical systems for demanding applications, enabling imaging capabilities essential for the success of the mission.
This contribution builds on Lambda-X High-Tech’s expertise in designing and manufacturing high-performance optical systems that withstand harsh environments, supporting space missions and Europe’s efforts in lunar and space exploration.
